Based in South East London appa Training is pleased to offer you a Signature verified Level 6 Interpreting course developed by Signers working professionally in the field of British Sign Language.

Language Course

Our BSL language course consists of two parts; Part 1 is the taught part of the course comprising of 8 x 2-day long teaching blocks held on Fridays and Saturdays. Part 2 is evidence collection and submission of that portfolio of evidence.

We’ve designed the rolling programme to give you the best opportunities to collect evidence and submit your portfolio when ready, so part 2 isn’t as daunting as you may think! Timescales vary between 6 months to 18 months, depending on your previous experience and entry assessment results.

Accreditation and faculty

The course is Signature accredited and designed by our multi-talented in-house team of teachers, interpreters, working professionals and disability advocates. The taught sessions are delivered by a range of qualified teachers who themselves are also out there in the field as professional BSL interpreters or are themselves deaf.

The course has been crafted to give you the very best in learning how to refine your British Sign Language skills to operate at a professional level with deaf BSL users. To learn the things we wish we had been taught when we started.

Our centre is geared towards a positive learning environment, you are also given your own personal tutorials, and once completed you will be given 1 free CPD workshop, which will start your CPD journey. Study Tips

BSL Zone is a great resource for exposure to such a broad range of BSL.

Qualification objectives

Level 6 Certificate in British Sign Language (BSL) caters for the learning needs of those who already have competence in BSL at Level 3. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate competence at Level 6 of the UK Occupational Language Standards (CILT, 2010). This means that the learner will be able to understand and use complex BSL in a range of work and social situations. Learners will be able to demonstrate language skills equivalent to an undergraduate degree in Modern Languages.

It is useful for those who work professionally with Deaf people (for example teachers and lecturers in BSL, social workers, teachers of the Deaf, trainee interpreters, voluntary workers, workers within Deaf organisations, schools, etc) or those who aspire to work in these contexts.
