Welcome to the information page for Level 3 Certificate in BSL.

By studying Level 3 in British Sign Language with Signature, you will further develop your skills in BSL and become a competent communicator. Building upon the vocabulary and grammar learnt within level 1 and level 2, learners will be able to understand and use varied BSL in a range of work and social situations.

BSL Linguistics and Grammar are key components of this qualification. You will develop your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

What will you learn?

The Qualification is split into three units;

  • BSL320 – Sign Linguistics Knowledge
  • BSL321 – Understand varied British Sign Language in a range of work and social
  • BSL322 – Use varied British Sign Language in a range of work and social situations

Given the nature of the course, anyone attending will be able to apply for NUS membership and receive the Totum NUS Student card. A tremendous bonus, the Totum card gives students discounts on a large selection of goods and services. For more information check out the NUS website.

Study Tips

This course delves deep into the Linguistics and Grammar of BSL. All students will be given a copy of “The Linguistics of British Sign Language” by Rachel Sutton-Spence and Bencie Woll.

This is a 300 page text book, if you can borrow a copy before the class then go for it!

Course Details

Classes will last for 20 weekly sessions, held from 18:00 to 21:00.
In addition, there will be 5 full-day sessions per month on a Saturday and 3 personal planning 1:1 meetings with your tutor.
