Open Process Interpreting

Structured Professional Development

Hosted by Darren Townsend-Handscomb
Join us for this one-day hands-on, interactive workshop exploring Stephanie Clarke’s ‘Open Process’ approach to interpreting. This innovative framework empowers interpreters to:
- When co-working, flex and adapt interpreting models in real time, responding to the needs of the deaf participants and context.
- Challenge audism’s influence on interpreting and reflect on how we can work more collaboratively.
Through discussion, reflection, and live role-play with Deaf participants, you’ll put theory into practice, experimenting with collaborative interpreting techniques and co-working strategies.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave with:
- Practical tools to involve Deaf people more in interpreting choices.
- New approaches for teamwork with colleagues.
- A deeper understanding of the ‘Open Process’ and popcorn.
In order to best explore Open Process, the discussions and role plays in this workshop will focus on BSL-to-English interpreting, and collaborative teamwork rather than solo working.
