Level 4 Certificate in British Sign Language with Interpreting
Welcome to the information page for Signature Level 4 Certificate in BSL with Interpreting
Based in South East London appa is pleased to offer you a Signature verified Level 4 British Sign Language with Interpreting course developed by Signers working professionally in the field of British Sign Language.
Our Level 4 course is designed to fully equip you with the language theory and linguistics to qualify as a trainee interpreter. Traditionally people would do Level 3 in BSL, then Level 6 in BSL and then Level 6 BSL Interpreting.
The favoured route at appa is Level 3 in BSL, Level 4 in BSL with Interpreting and the Level 6 Interpreter programme. These courses, tier specifications and requirements are superior to the older pathway. You get better-designed theory and more relevant interpreter training.
Accreditation and faculty
The course is Signature accredited and designed by our multi-talented in-house team of teachers, interpreters, working professionals and disability advocates. The taught sessions are delivered by a range of qualified teachers who themselves are also out there in the field as professional BSL interpreters or are themselves deaf.
The course has been crafted to give you the very best in learning how to refine your British Sign Language skills to operate at a professional level with deaf BSL users. To learn the things we wish we had been taught when we started.
The Units you will learn are;

This is a 300 page text book, if you can borrow a copy before the class then go for it!
This course is designed for those who work with, or want to work with, Deaf people (e.g. social workers, teachers of the Deaf, communicators, voluntary workers, workers within Deaf organisations, schools, etc.), those who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in British Sign Language, and those who are interested in a career in interpreting. Successful completion of this qualification can be used as evidence of the language skills needed, in order to be able to operate independently and at an advanced level in the target language
