The course is Signature accredited and designed by our multi-talented in-house team of teachers, interpreters, working professionals and disability advocates. The taught sessions are delivered by a range of qualified teachers who themselves are also out there in the field as professional BSL interpreters or are themselves deaf.

The course has been crafted to give you the very best in learning how to refine your British Sign Language skills to operate at a professional level with deaf BSL users. To learn the things we wish we had been taught when we started.

Course Requirements

Qualification Objectives

This course is designed for those who work with, or want to work with, Deaf people (e.g. social workers, teachers of the Deaf, communicators, voluntary workers, workers within Deaf organisations, schools, etc.), those who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in British Sign Language, and those who are interested in a career in interpreting. Successful completion of this qualification can be used as evidence of the language skills needed, in order to be able to operate independently and at an advanced level in the target language

Study Tips

This course delves deep into the Linguistics and Grammar of BSL. All students will be given a copy of “The Linguistics of British Sign Language” by Rachel Sutton-Spence and Bencie Woll.

This is a 300 page text book, if you can borrow a copy before the class then go for it!

Course Details

Assessment is compulsory for unit and consists of a half day interview and written assessment. The fee for this is;
£45
However, if you pass and sign up for the course you will be refunded for that assessment.
Currently, classes will be held remotely via Zoom.
We will assess the option of face to face classes alongside remote learning if risk can be managed adequately.
